  • Childhood Immunization: What Every Parent Should Know
with Marie Winters, N.D.

Topic classes focus on specific aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Each
seminar meets once for two hours, holding an in-depth discussion of the topic at hand -
holistic prenatal nutrition, infant care, breastfeeding, or infant nutrition and solid food
introduction.  Group topic classes vary in price.  See below for details.  The cost of each
private two hour session is $100.  Payment is available through Paypal; please contact
Brittany to arrange this payment.

Breastfeeding 101 covers the basics of milk production, how to know that your baby is
getting enough, proper positioning and latch for successful nursing, possible complications
and their resolutions, common breastfeeding misconceptions, and information on storing
and expressing milk.  Individual concerns are also addressed and techniques and tips to
ease the nursing relationship are shared.

Infant Care Basics is ideal for the expecting parents.  Class topics include what to expect in
your baby in the first few hours and days after birth, signs of illness and knowing when to
call the pediatrician, the basics of diapering, umbilical cord care, care for the circumcised
and uncircumcised penis, and bathing.  Tips and suggestions for soothing a fussy baby are
discussed as well including touch, massage, and swaddling.  The class also covers
choosing safe bath and body products for your child, the basics of babywearing, and safe
co-sleeping.  Time is allowed for questions and handouts are provided to take home.

Infant Nutrition and Solid Food Introduction is ideal for parents with a child two months to
one year of age.  Class topics include the basics of childhood nutrition and covers the
introduction of solid foods to the breastfed and/or formula fed infant.  Topics covered
include water intake, iron, and vitamin D in the exclusively breastfed baby as well as the
"cereal myth" and signs of readiness for solid foods.  A food introduction timeline is
discussed including the foods with which to begin and how to know the baby is getting
enough. Common food-related concerns and food allergies - how to avoid them and how to
detect allergic reactions - are discussed.  The class also includes basic instruction and tips
on making baby food at home and suggests books and websites for more information.
Meeting the child's nutritional needs while adhering to alternative diets including that of the
vegan and vegetarian are also covered.  Time is allowed for questions and handouts are
provided for families to take home.

Q & A Session is a two hour block of time dedicated solely to the questions the client has.
There is no plan for the class; Brittany will cover any and all questions the couple has
regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and labor.  The "Q & A" session is a wonderful complement
to hospital childbirth classes and/or perfect for couples needing a childbirth refresher.
