THIS IS
YOUR BIRTH.
YOUR BIRTH.
I wanted to let you know everything we learned in the birth class came in handy throughout my labor. We felt empowered that we were educated and informed and knew what questions to ask to ensure unnecessary interventions were not done. Thanks so much for helping us prepare for the birth of our baby girl! |
Brittany - thank you so, so much! Your class offered hands-on, pratical tools for labor that our hospital class didn't provide. My husband and I left feeling more confident and excited about labor. - Kristen S. |
Online Childbirth Education Class
Blossoming Bellies online birth class provides expectant families with an opportunity to learn at their own pace, taking as much time as needed to complete the course while having the ability to review materials repeatedly along the way and at any time after the course has been completed. Learning in one's own environment means that the course material can be completed at any time day or night and can be divided into short increments and spaced out over the course of a few weeks or divided into longer sessions and completed in just a weekend. This allows for the class to be taken at any point in pregnancy and accessed repeatedly throughout the journey leading to labor and birth.
The online class is comprehensive, covering all of the topics explored in the longest in-person class Blossoming Bellies has taught, the eight week series. Topics include the basics of all Blossoming Bellies birth classes - knowing one's rights in the laboring room, evidence based decision making, informed consent and informed refusal, developing birth priorities and the effective use of birth plans, pelvic dynamics and baby positioning, the ins and outs of the emotional and physical aspects of the labor process, common interventions, cesarean birth, medical pain relief options, and non-pharmacologic or "natural" comfort techniques. Additional topics exclusive to the online class include nourishment and movement in pregnancy and postpartum, guided relaxation and tension release exercises, visualization for labor and birth, immediate and extended postpartum, and breastfeeding/chestfeeding. The class is full of usable information, presented in the form of graphics, short videos, PDFs, writing exercises, interactive videos, and audio tracks. In addition, participants are invited to watch an array of birth videos. And to round it all out, clients are encouraged to choose one of the Blossoming Bellies recorded one hour webinars with Blossoming Bellies founder and birth class facilitator, Brittany Sharpe McCollum or a guest speaker. Please view the available webinars at Webinars. (Details on accessing the webinar will be provided in the first section of the online class.)
Online class participants will receive a digital packet of class materials to enhance the materials shared throughout the course. Clients are also welcome to email Brittany with any questions that come up along the way.

FAQs about Online Classes:
What about the hands-on comfort techniques for labor? How will I learn them?
Blossoming Bellies has developed a series of comprehensive videos that thoroughly explain and show positions, counterpressure, massage techniques, and more, all within the online class. The comfort techniques series shows many different positions being used with and without support people and includes Brittany's description of specific techniques and the benefits of different positions throughout labor. This allows online class participants to see a variety of expectant people practicing and learning these measures, with the guidance of Brittany.
Can I review the materials after I have already completed them?
Yes! This is one of the best parts of the online class. This learning format allows you to review the different lectures and sessions as much or as little as needed both during and after completion of the course. Videos can be paused and rewatched to help ensure that information and techniques are fully understood before moving on.
Would this class work for those whom have already given birth?
Absolutely! This course will provide insight into making labor as efficient as possible and feeling as in control of the decision making along the way as one can. The ability to go at one's own pace and review materials as necessary allows those whom have birthed before to hone in on topics and techniques which they feel are most necessary for their experience. This is an excellent course for those with young children at home whom may find it challenging to obtain childcare while attending an in person birth class!
Would this class be appropriate for those planning a VBAC?
Blossoming Bellies online course includes information extremely usable for a vaginal birth after cesarean. Participants will benefit from all of the pelvic dynamics information as well as the skills developed in communicating with providers and asserting one's rights in the laboring room. The pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain relief techniques will leave clients feeling fully informed about their options and potential side effects. And just as above, this is a great option for parents whom may have trouble finding childcare to attend an in-person class.
Would this class be appropriate for those planning a cesarean birth?
The course includes extensive information on cesarean birth, options for a gentle or family-friendly cesarean, one's rights during the birth, the cesarean process, and healing from a cesarean. However, there is also a significant amount of information focused on preparing for the labor process and planning for a vaginal birth. Participants planning a cesarean would still benefit from the information as well as the opportunity for email correspondence. Stay tuned for additional online courses, including an add-on class focused specifically on cesarean birth, VBAC, homebirth!
Would this class be useful for those birthing in a hospital, birth center, or at home?
This course is designed to cover the needs of and provide usable information for those journeying through the pregnancy, labor, and birth process regardless of where one is choosing to birth. Although some topics are specific only to hospital birth (such as epidural discussion), those planning to birth at a center or home can still benefit from understanding the options and having the knowledge in the back of their mind. The information on communication with providers, pelvic bodywork and baby positioning, nourishment, movement, labor and birth, relaxation, hormones, comfort techniques, postpartum, etc. are all incredibly important regardless of where one is choosing to birth.
